My coding/designing process is very scientific
- Get very excited about the site
- Jump around in excitement for at least 20 mins
- Start researching how to implement it
- Find inspiration for the site by revisiting some or all 200 tabs in my design inspiration delicious bookmarks
- Read about new tools to make the process easier
- Start actual coding/designing
- Make lot of progress in first couple hours, but then bogged down by some minor problem
- Spend couple hours trying to solve that problem
- At this point I usually solve it, but sometimes I don’t
- Then I get very frustrated at not being able to solve it
- Spend more time trying
- Start cursing like a sailor watching football game when his team is losing and he has bet all his money on the outcome
- Punch wall, pillows, if nearby babies
- Start thinking about quitting everything
- Think more about how the hopelessness of life and civilization
- Get depressed
- Start watching West Wing all over again
- Half way through it, something clicks
- And I solve the problem usually in half an hour
- Finish the project by pulling an all nighter
- Think ‘All’s well, ends well’
- And wonder what happened to my hair…did I get a haircut this week?
- Notice I pulled it all out when you were frustrated
- Frak I’m bald again
Right now I’m at Step 17: Start watching West Wing all over again
The end.
On the bright side, you got past the depression stage … I suspect we all have a creative process along these lines. Maybe I will post my step-by-step process on here.
