My coding/designing process is very scientific

senthilnambi:

  1. Get very excited about the site
  2. Jump around in excitement for at least 20 mins
  3. Start researching how to implement it
  4. Find inspiration for the site by revisiting some or all 200 tabs in my design inspiration delicious bookmarks
  5. Read about new tools to make the process easier
  6. Start actual coding/designing
  7. Make lot of progress in first couple hours, but then bogged down by some minor problem
  8. Spend couple hours trying to solve that problem
  9. At this point I usually solve it, but sometimes I don’t
  10. Then I get very frustrated at not being able to solve it
  11. Spend more time trying
  12. Start cursing like a sailor watching football game when his team is losing and he has bet all his money on the outcome
  13. Punch wall, pillows, if nearby babies
  14. Start thinking about quitting everything
  15. Think more about how the hopelessness of life and civilization
  16. Get depressed
  17. Start watching West Wing all over again
  18. Half way through it, something clicks
  19. And I solve the problem usually in half an hour
  20. Finish the project by pulling an all nighter
  21. Think ‘All’s well, ends well’
  22. And wonder what happened to my hair…did I get a haircut this week?
  23. Notice I pulled it all out when you were frustrated
  24. Frak I’m bald again

Right now I’m at Step 17: Start watching West Wing all over again

The end.

On the bright side, you got past the depression stage … I suspect we all have a creative process along these lines. Maybe I will post my step-by-step process on here.
